A nutraceutical company focusing on treating gut-related diseases in humans.   
The company produces and markets a fermented nutraceutical product. 

The Challenge

The product has many beneficial effects on human health.   
For many years, the client focused mainly on health-related effects in the gut. 
The client wanted to expand their business activities by focusing their products more generally on promoting human health and well-being. 

The Focus

Together with Jesper Levin A/S, the client began to identify several human health effects associated with their product, and the client decided to establish new research activities aimed at exploiting business opportunities. 

As novel and often surprising effects of their product were discovered, Jesper Levin A/S were entrusted with the task of protecting these novel effects. Jesper Levin A/S were also asked to draft and implement a new patent strategy for the client, and to contribute to the integration of the patent strategy in an overall business and marketing strategy.  

The Result 

Today, the management team have a new focus on their company and the market they are in. The company today is a very different company from the one Jesper Levin A/S began advising in 2013. The client has established several new business areas, and on-going research continues to identify new and interesting health effects associated with the product. 

The client has diversified into new business areas, and today the client focuses their business not only on gut-related diseases, but also on health-related effects associated with treatment of liver diseases and inflammation in humans. Additional new business areas are under consideration.

A biotech company, which has utilized the services of Jesper Levin for more than 20 years, identifies and validates novel drug candidates and provides innovative new disease treatments.

The Challenge

As a startup company, how do you generate a substantial amount of intellectual property rights, in particular patents, to sustain and grow your business.   
Jesper Levin advised the founders of the company on creative patent strategies. The result was a valuable patent portfolio based on which the company was founded in 2001. 
Many patent applications were filed to protect and defend the IP rights of the company.

Patents were issued in many different jurisdictions, including the United States, Europe, Japan, and China, ensuring the patent portfolio would protect both pharmaceuticals and platform technologies, including what would become a renowned and revolutionary technology invented by the client over many years.   
Jesper Levin also assisted the client in business negotiations and in several complex due diligences.   

The Result 

The client has generated over more than 20 years valuable commercial results for partners and business associates, including major pharmaceutical companies.  Drug candidates were identified, further developed, and subjected to clinical studies by the client and their partners. 

Today, Jesper Levin A/S advises the client on intellectual property matters and continues to add commercial value to the company’s patent portfolio.

Protecting business and product development

A medico-tech company develops medical devices for treating cognitive brain diseases.

The Challenge

A market demand for next generation medical devices required the Client to initiate an innovative and challenging product development. Patent protection of the next-generation medical devices was essential in order to protect the Client’s investment.

The Focus

The Client identified several innovative technical features that were essential for meeting the demand in the market.  The technical features were developed and applied in prototypes of the medical devices.  Exploratory clinical trials were successfully conducted and validated the innovative technical solutions conceived by the Client.

The Result 

Together with Jesper Levin A/S, the Client decided to patent several of the novel and innovative medical devices in the United States, Europe, Japan and China.

The patent strategy was carefully executed to optimize the protection of the devices and to maximize the business potential.

A biotech company manufactures immune stimulating biological products and wishes to identify new market opportunities.
